All, in all, the good news is that there was a lot of coverage in the more expensive packages. “The most exciting part of our job was about two weeks ago when we got bid day,” said Whiting-Turner Project Manager Tim Kostuk, “There was just under 90 bids that came in. While some less competitive bids like the siding were higher, overall the project could shave off several thousand dollars which would free them up to complete several other tentative items which have remained in limbo due to budgeting concerns. According to the representatives for Whiting-Turner, the contractors who presented the bids before the board on Wednesday, some of the bids came in much lower than projected. This follows the closing of the bids for contracts on most of the project’s major items, a process started two weeks ago, seeing over 90 prospective contractors vying to get involved in the project. Though members of the board noted they were a week behind their expected timeline, they’re still on track to have the structure completed around September of next year. Next week the second parking lot adjacent to the building will be closed as they prepare to erect a construction fence around the site, in preparation for bringing equipment to the site and breaking ground later in the month. SOUTHINGTON - After months of planning, the Library Building Committee is prepared to begin construction on the new library in mid-July.
